Timeless, functional design whose convincing aesthetics have not been created by adding, but above all by reduction. We prove this visual and haptic quality time and again with products that have won numerous awards worldwide.
In 1966 with the LAMY 2000 model, Dr. Manfred Lamy founded the clear, unmistakable design language that is still characteristic of all the brand's products today - the LAMY design. This design approach was not only innovative for the time but is still unparalleled today: Pioneering spirit has been a core value of LAMY’s corporate culture from the very beginning. The first and fundamental prerequisite for the design process at LAMY is to develop an attitude towards everything. They should be beautiful, functional, durable and, if possible, available to all. LAMY has developed guard rails for its design process, also called design corridors: no ornaments or fashionable embellishments, the most important thing is a long physical and, above all, visual durability. The Bauhaus and companies such as Olivetti, WMF, Rosenthal and Braun were the models.
An attitude towards everything requires education, knowledge, awareness and, last but not least, a cultural foundation - this is Dr Lamy's conviction. The timelessly modern aesthetics of the LAMY design combined with the highest quality have always guaranteed the most effective form of sustainability: lasting enjoyment of the products and therefore their long-term use. The liberation from fashionable ornamentation and the consistent renunciation of all details that do not serve function ensure this: LAMY writing instruments are not disposable products. They accompany people for years and decades of their lives.
Designer
Writing instruments from Lamy are created in cooperation with internationally renowned designers and design studios.
The typical Lamy design always remains in place and clearly recognisable here – thanks to the proven design principles of the brand, which are based on consistent symbiosis of aesthetics and functionality. This means that writing instruments are created, which time and again interpret the distinctive Lamy design in a new and individual way.
Eric Degenhardt
Eric Degenhardt studied Architecture at the RWTH Aachen. Taking his idea of space and architecture, it was a logical step to move further from the big towards the smaller scale. He switched his focus towards furniture and industrial design - after spending a time in London. Since setting up his studio he has developed furniture, electronical products and architectonical spaces for international clients.
Jasper Morrison is a leading British designer, best known for his work in furniture, lighting, electrical products and tableware. Having set up his Office for Design in London in 1986, he has been working for renown international clients such as Vitra, Cappellini, Flos, Marsotto, Punkt, Camper and Muji since then. Jasper Morrison Ltd currently has offices in London, Tokyo and Paris.
Gernot Bohmann, Harald Gründl and Martin Bergmann got to know each other at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. They set up their EOOS studio in 1995.
When Naoto Fukasawa founded his own design office in Tokyo in 2003 at the age of 47, his reduced, playfully simple designs were already international successes and his reputation had long been established.
Shortly after completing his degree in architecture, the Danish native born in Rødby in 1930 won his first architectural competitions. And today the list of his award-winning buildings is as long as that of his many prize-winning designs.
He began his career as a designer right at the very top of things: at Mercedes Benz. At the same time, however, with a rather modest project: the design of the exterior mirrors for the legendary 300 SL roadster.
Franco Clivio was born in 1942 in Schulen, Switzerland, and studied at the Ulm School of Design. He designed for many successful clients including Erco, FSB, Gardena, Rodenstock and Siemens.
Strength of form and strong brand recognition: the Lamy design follows a clear line. Consistency which is rewarded: year in and year out, Lamy repeatedly wins awards for their writing instruments, packaging and promotional material – proving their extraordinary quality of design.
