Where there’s a lot of writing, questions sometimes arise. We take feedback from our community very seriously. Occasionally, customers report minor challenges in everyday use.

But the beauty of high-quality writing instruments from LAMY is this: almost any problem can be instantly turned into a positive experience through correct handling or a quick flush.

We sometimes receive feedback that a new LAMY fountain pen isn’t writing well or is scratching the paper when it first touches it.

In practice, this is almost never due to a manufacturing fault, but rather to a simple physical fact: every person’s handwriting has a unique angle.

The solution: If your LAMY fountain pen doesn’t glide perfectly at first, this is usually because the nib hasn’t yet been fully broken in, or because of minimal production residues (such as very fine dust) in the ink feed. Simply rinse the barrel under lukewarm, clear water.

The right nib: As LAMY uses a modular system, you can change or replace the nib in no time at all. From extra-fine (EF) through to medium (M) and special nibs for beginners (A) or left-handers (LH) – we have the perfect fit for every hand. After just a few sentences, the nib will adapt to your hand, and that initial ‘awkward writing’ will transform into a feather-light glide.

Another issue that is occasionally discussed is that the LAMY fountain pen is leaking. Naturally, nobody wants blue fingers at the office or at school.

• The solution: In 99 per cent of cases, a supposedly leaking fountain pen is down to an ink cartridge that hasn’t clicked into place properly. If the cartridge isn’t pushed over the mandrel with sufficient pressure when inserting it, ink can accumulate inside the barrel.
  
  

• Simply clean the barrel and grip section thoroughly with a damp cloth. Then insert the cartridge until you hear a distinct ‘click’.
  
  

• Or use the original LAMY twist-on converter for your fountain pen. Thanks to the precise threads, the barrel seals airtight and liquid-tight – so stains are a thing of the past.
