If the ink isn’t flowing or the nib is scratching, a few simple steps usually help:
Check the cartridge or converter: Is there still enough ink, or has an air bubble formed in the converter?
Rinse with lukewarm water: Dried-up ink is often the cause. Remove the barrel and rinse it under running, lukewarm water until the water runs completely clear. Then leave it to dry thoroughly.
Priming: After cleaning, make gentle, circular movements on a slightly damp piece of kitchen roll to get the ink flowing again.
Change the nib: If the nib is mechanically damaged or bent, it can be replaced very easily on most LAMY models.
That depends entirely on the ink used, not on the fountain pen itself. Standard ink cartridges are generally not waterproof, as they are water-soluble and can be erased (e.g. with an Ink eradicator).
A fountain pen only becomes waterproof when used with special ink that is waterproof, lightfast, age-resistant and chemically resistant; in other words, the writing must not be removable by chemicals.
To ensure a fountain pen is legally compliant for use with official contracts, deeds or exams, you must fill it with special, certified ink (often in accordance with DIN ISO 12757-2). LAMY’s LAMY T53 benitoite (380) ink in the Crystal series is waterproof.
